Indulging for a Good Cause

Just in time for Mother’s Day, Caroline Wright, author of Twenty-Dollar, Twenty-Minute Meals (who’s credentials include being a trained cook and influential food writer, as well as studying in Paris and working as a food editor for Martha Stewart’s Everyday Food magazine) presents a bake sale at CityCraft: Modern Fabric to benefit Café Momentum (check it out, here) this Saturday, May 10 from 10 AM to 2 PM. The Dallas-based restaurant and training facility provides an opportunity for the community’s most at-risk youth to receive intensive culinary, job, and life-skill training, as well as mentoring and support. Not that we need an excuse to treat ourselves to something sweet, but there’s nothing like indulging for a good cause. Whether you’re scrambling to get a gift, starting the festivities early, or just find yourself with a sweet tooth, stop by CityCraft: Modern Fabric and satisfy your craving for some sweet confections all while supporting a worthy cause. Plus, now you have a reason to eat that second piece of cake.

Mother’s Day in the Design District

If you haven’t already made reservations for brunch this Sunday with mom, the restaurants in the Design District are conjuring up some delicious menus just in time!

Bridge Bistro at 921 N. Riverfront Blvd. created a special menu featuring items like cornmeal fried oysters, Texas peach pancakes, hot homemade biscuits, crab cake eggs benedict, and key lime pie. You can view the full menu here.

Meddlesome Moth, 1621 Oak Lawn Ave., is sticking to its regular (though, like all things Moth, very creative — and mouthwatering) brunch menu; think challah French toast with fresh berries, eggs creole and a plate of rosemary, eucalyptus and honey with artisanal breads. Or, go with the day’s theme and order the “Mother and Child Reunion,” a fried chicken breast tenderloin with poached eggs, peppered grits and jalapeno gravy.

Just across the street, Oak is featuring a special Mother’s Day menu with chilled heirloom tomato soup, chorizo biscuits, wagyu sirloin salad, Gianduja chocolate panna and more — guaranteed to be delicious!
